A lot of children do not even know that they have rights and are important. Studies indicate, on average (and varying by country), 50% of children globally do not know that they have rights, which amounts to approximately 1.1 billion children.
Knowing their rights can form the basis for self-advocacy as well as advocacy for others. I educate children and organizations supporting those children on their rights as set out in the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child (UNCRC).
I am in the process of creating child-friendly materials for the children to better understand their rights, and translating those materials into the other 10 official languages of South Africa. All children are equal, and all their rights are equal. These materials will be available in every official language to ensure no child is excluded.
The United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child (CRC) contains 54 articles in total.
